I was reading where David gets crowned king and they're bringing the Ark of the Covenant home and David's so giddy that he strips down to his tighty-whities and skips down main street. When a lady spots him, she tries to call him out about it. David responds by telling her, "I will be even more humiliated than this." I thought, "What..?" I was so moved by that, I had to put it in a song. It's about being man enough to give up trying to be man enough; it's about focusing instead on trust, faith, loyalty - the hard stuff. You have to stop thinking of yourself if you want to become greater than yourself.
It's crazy.
I will lay my face down in the sand,
Draw upon your strength to make my stand,
Weather all these wounds for this endeavor,
Promenade naked if it makes me clever.
I will be more humiliated than this.
‘Cause I know that you're my best friend.
If Ruth could find a smile in her bliss,
My heart’s desire won’t be remiss.
You re the luminary by which I see;
My Florence Nightingale you will be.
No sharp words will cut me loose
From the hope and faith I've got in you.
I will be more humiliated than this.
‘Cause I know that you re my best friend.
If Ruth can find her smile in her bliss,
My love for you won’t be remiss.
You will be the dealer, and I’ll be your ace.
My house resides in your state of grace.
Mine these words; I'm just a fool,
Nothing but a cog, a humble tool.
I will be more humiliated than this.
‘Cause I know that You re my best friend.
If Ruth can find her smile in her bliss,
My heart’s desire won’t be remiss.
